Here you can see how to do things easier...  Not all the ideas are original and we need to give a credit for some other people like in case of cutting brass tubing.  This idea was from Model Research Labs, which describes a construction of their ornithopter "Jerky Herky ... the Half Wild Turkey" (Ira: I ordered one: it is really cool!).

Besides you can see couple of tests of the stuff, which could be useful in robotics.  See the links in the menu.

How to... cut a thin brass or aluminum tubing

The interesting and very simple technique can used to cut into smaller pieces brass or aluminum tubing.

Cut thin tubing with knife!

Take a strong knife with thick and not flexible blade.  Using the knife roll the tubing on a piece of wood (don't do it on your kitchen cutting board :o).  First, scratch the surface not pressing to hard.  Then increase the force continuously rolling and the knife will cut the piece off!

How to... cut a thread inside brass tubing without thread mill

OK. We won't exactly cut the thread.  The trick is that brass is moldable.

Squeeze the tubing using pliers

Find a screw which can fit tight in the tubing.  Using pliers squeeze the tubing end along the screw in couple of places.

Ready thread "cut" in the tubing

Now remove the screw with a screw driver and the thread is ready!  You can use it for not demanding connections.
